Monkeypox Reports Increase, While COVID-19 Cases Decrease

Companies in the automotive and aerospace sectors adopted IMSS’s Safe and Healthy Work Environments Program (ELSSA) to promote a safer work environment at their plants. Meanwhile, Medica Sur and Mayo Clinic allied to promote minimally invasive surgery in the country.
COVID-19 cases and deaths are decreasing in Mexico, while hospital occupancy is also at its lowest point. However, almost 1,000 monkeypox cases and two deaths potentially linked to the disease have been reported in the country.

Medica Sur, Mayo Clinic to Boost Radiosurgery
Medica Sur and Mayo Clinic are collaborating to increase the penetration of minimally invasive surgery in Mexico. While this technique could greatly benefit the country, local doctors and institutions need greater awareness of its costs and benefits. Automotive, Aerospace Industries Adopt IMSS’s ELSSA
IMSS’s ELSSA was adopted by automotive and aerospace manufacturing companies in Queretaro, which seek to improve working conditions. “IMSS developed ELSSA to transform the working environment,” said Olga Martínez Montañez, Normative Coordinator at the Directorate of Economic and Social Benefits, IMSS, to MBN. With this program, companies expect to reduce accidents as these sectors report the highest number of labor accidents worldwide. “In the government, we work to achieve the best working conditions for the people of Queretaro, thus, we provide tools and protect our talented workforce,” said Kuri González, Governor of Queretaro. Mexico Reports Almost 1,000 Monkeypox Cases
As of Oct. 3, 2022, 968 monkeypox cases were reported in 31 states in Mexico, according to the Ministry of Health. Two deaths have also been reported but experts are still analyzing if they were caused by monkeypox. Mexico City, Jalisco and the State of Mexico have reported most of the identified cases and 98 percent of the total cases were identified in men. The WHO reports that over 68,000 cases and 25 deaths have been reported in 106 countries as of Sep. 30, 2022. Read more about it here.
COVID-19 Cases Dramatically Decrease in Mexico
Mexico has experienced a decrease in COVID-19 cases during the last three months, putting the country at its lowest level of contagion. The number of deaths has also decreased; between Sep. 25, 2022 and Oct. 02, 2022 around two deaths were reported per day. “The COVID-19 epidemic adds three consecutive months of reduction [in cases], with low levels of transmission and hospital occupancy. Currently, 2 percent of general beds and 1 percent of ventilated beds [are occupied], and deaths [have also reduced].
