Arelion Expands Queretaro-Monterrey Fiber Route for AI Growth
Arelion is launching a second fully diverse dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) route connecting Queretaro and Monterrey, strengthening Mexico’s position as a regional hub for AI, cloud computing, and digital transformation.
“Mexico's AI and cloud sectors are experiencing substantial growth, in turn driving strong demand for terabit-scale Waves and reliable IP services to support emerging applications. With this expansion, Arelion now offers two fully diverse, entirely underground routes between the technology hubs of Queretaro and Monterrey, enabling us to connect wholesale and enterprise customers to our AI superhighway as they increasingly deploy data-intensive applications,” says Edison De Leon, Regional Director Latin America and the Caribbean, Arelion.
The new underground fiber route enhances network resilience and connects Mexico’s leading technology hubs directly to Arelion’s AI superhighway in Latin America. It also provides high-availability connectivity to the rapidly expanding markets in Texas through McAllen and Laredo, supporting wholesale and enterprise customers with reliable access to AI, content, and cloud applications.
Equipped with C+L band open optical line systems and next-generation 400G/800G coherent pluggable optics, the new route delivers high-capacity, low-latency performance essential for data-intensive workloads. Customers will benefit from scalable bandwidth to support nearshoring, financial services, manufacturing, gaming, content streaming, and other high-growth industries.
Queretaro is home to 15% of Mexico’s data centers, representing more than US$2 billion in investment and nearly 95MW of commissioned power, projected to reach 700MW in the coming years as hyperscale campuses expand, reports Arelion. Monterrey is undergoing a similar transformation, with commissioned power expected to double as the city strengthens its role as a cross-border technology hub.
This investment enables Arelion to support low-latency edge inferencing for AI applications and deliver managed optical fiber networking (MOFN) services for high-bandwidth interregional flows. Arelion customers will now have enhanced access to services including IP Transit, scalable Wavelengths, 100G Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), and Cloud Connect.
The new Queretaro-Monterrey route is expected to go live in 1Q26. With this addition, Arelion now operates ten regional Points of Presence (PoPs) in Mexico, located in Queretaro, Monterrey, Mexico City, San Luis Potosi, Mérida, Guadalajara, and Tijuana. This growing footprint ensures nationwide connectivity to global networks and positions Mexico as a vital node in the Americas’ digital ecosystem.
