Arelion is launching a fully diverse, cross-border underground fiber route connecting its new Point-of-Presence (PoP) at Neutral Networks’ data center in Tijuana to its existing PoPs in San Diego. This expansion enhances network diversity and resilience, marking Arelion’s first PoP in Tijuana and its tenth regional PoP in Mexico.

"This new cross-border route allows us to support Mexico's ongoing economic growth and digital innovation amid the continued rise of AI and cloud applications, proving instrumental in serving customers in diverse sectors across the main cities in Baja California, such as Tijuana, Mexicali, and Ensenada. This new route allows Arelion to support massive traffic flows from Mexico into San Diego with terabit-scale capacities and fully diverse Tier-1 services, enabling cross-border connectivity to America's thriving data center and technology markets," says Edison De Leon, Regional Director of Latin America and the Caribbean, Arelion.

The new fiber route significantly improves scalability and availability, providing terabit-scale capacity and high-speed connectivity to wholesale and enterprise customers. With seamless integration into Arelion’s dual PoPs in San Diego and its established routes to Phoenix and Los Angeles, the company now offers robust, low-latency connections to North America’s leading cloud and AI data center hubs.

Local fiber providers are ramping up investment in Tijuana and Mexicali to meet the demands of the growing technology market and new submarine cable developments, such as the Bifrost cable. Nearshoring trends have fueled industrial growth in the region, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, medical supply, and electronics sectors. Tijuana hosts 55 aerospace and defense firms and 122 electronics manufacturing companies. Real estate developers are investing over $635 million to construct 5.3 million square feet of industrial space to accommodate this surge.

The new route also equips Mexico’s edge users with direct access to Arelion’s full ecosystem of cloud, content, and AI applications, leveraging the latest open line systems and 400G coherent pluggable optics. Enterprises and local service providers in Mexico can now benefit from direct, resilient connectivity to content providers and data centers in Southern California and the booming AI region of Phoenix via San Diego.

Arelion’s Mexico presence has grown to include PoPs in San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Mexico City, Merida, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. With this strategic network expansion, Arelion strengthens its position as a global leader in digital infrastructure, providing access to its highly ranked global internet backbone and a comprehensive portfolio of services, including IP Transit, Wavelengths, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Cloud Connect, 40G Global Ethernet VC, and DDoS Mitigation.
