Construction Sector Falls 7.2% in September 2025
Mexico's industrial activity contracted by 0.4% in September 2025, marking the fourth consecutive month of negative figures, according to data from INEGI. This monthly decline was primarily driven by a 2.5% fall in the construction sector.
According to INEGI’s Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMA), industrial activity decreased by 3.3% year-on-year, registering its seventh consecutive month of annual declines. The annual contraction was led by the construction sector, which fell 7.2%. This was attributed to a 27.2% annual drop in civil engineering works, mainly in public projects, and a 5.6% decline in edification. The only subsector that showed growth was specialized works for construction, with an 8.6% increase.
Other sectors also reported annual decreases. Mining activity fell 3.1%, resulting from a 6% drop in mining-related services and a 3.1% decline in oil and gas extraction. The generation and distribution of electricity, water, and gas also saw a 0.2% decrease compared to September 2024.
