Austrian leader in injection molding and automation ENGEL is expanding its operational capacity in Queretero with a new plant, representing an investment of MX$1.1 billion (US$54.26 million) that is expected to generate 515 new jobs.

“We are experiencing complicated times due to uncertainty in the United States, the European Union, and globally. However, I have always said that entrepreneurs must be immune to adversity, and without a doubt, this great company has demonstrated that. We are very grateful for this significant investment. We believe in Queretaro that the best social program is employment, and the best way to achieve that is by attracting investment. Queretaro leads in logistics, skilled labor, talent, quality of life, and legal certainty. This is largely due to the trust companies place in us by choosing Queretaro,” said Governor of Queretaro Mauricio Kuri during the plant’s opening ceremony.

Stefan Engleder, Global President, ENGEL, highlights that this expansion aims to strengthen the company’s presence in the state, bringing ENGEL closer to its customers in the region. He says that the vision for this project began three years ago with the creation of a solutions center and an ENGEL HUB to decentralize their global organization and empower the region.

“Queretaro has everything we need: a safe, clean, and peaceful environment in central Mexico, strong infrastructure, excellent schools and education, and a great reputation. This makes it an attractive place for employees to live and work,” says Engleder.

Nils Mayer, General Director, ENGEL Machinery México, says that this new facility represents more than an expansion — it is a statement of confidence in the workforce, technology, and manufacturing potential of the region. He stresses that from Mexico, the company is building not just molding machines but world-class technology with precision and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

“We are not just manufacturers; we are pioneers, and we want our clients to be as well. Let us continue moving forward together, building the future of the industry and ensuring that with every project, every innovation, every machine, we remain market leaders,” says Mayer.

The plastic industry is the fifth most important sector in the state, says Marco Antonio Del Prete, Minister of Sustainable Development of Queretaro. The plastic and rubber sector contributes MX$33 billion (US$1.63 billion) to the GDP, representing nearly 6% of the state's total GDP.

“Austria has become an important partner for our state. In 3Q24 alone, the plastic industry attracted US$147 million in investment. Today, we have 14 Austrian companies operating here, and we will continue working to attract more, expanding Queretaro’s capabilities into new markets,” says del Prete.
