The Government of Nuevo Leon has obtained the federal permits required to begin construction of Section II of the Interserrana Highway, a key project to strengthen the state’s regional connectivity.

“We started Saturday with great news from SEMARNAT, which has granted permission to begin construction on the stretch that will cross our Sierra Madre so that transporters and citizens can travel to the border without leaving Nuevo León,” says Governor of Nuevo Leon Samuel García.

The permits, granted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), follow the evaluation and approval of the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in its regional modality. This new section will extend from kilometer 12+490 to km 52+321, covering nearly 40km across the municipalities of Montemorelos, Linares, Rayones, Iturbide, and Galeana.

With this federal approval, the state can now move forward with the final section of the Interserrana Highway, while Sections I and III are already under construction. During a recent project inspection, García emphasized that the new highway will connect the north, center, and south of Nuevo Leon through the Sierra Madre, significantly reducing travel times, boosting regional development, and improving overall competitiveness.

The project, described as one of the administration’s most strategic works, will feature two tunnels and more than 40 bridges, creating a modern and safe route that enhances logistics efficiency and regional mobility.
