Q: What role does Brío Energía play in the energy and infrastructure industry, and how has that role changed over the years?

A: We are a sister company of Grupo GP, the largest private consulting firm in Mexico. We have over 57 years of experience in both public and private construction, and in the development of industrial parks and buildings. We have supported many companies, primarily manufacturers, in establishing themselves in Mexico. About 10 years ago, when the electricity market was deregulated, Grupo GP created a division focused solely on energy, called Brío Energía, to offer tailored solutions based on clients’ needs.

We operate through three main divisions. The first is qualified supply, which allows large consumers to migrate to the wholesale electricity market under private contracts. The second division focuses on infrastructure related to energy delivery, including substations and high- and medium-voltage lines. The third division focuses on on-site generation solutions, primarily through the installation and management of photovoltaic systems in industrial buildings.

Q: How do clients benefit from the implementation of photovoltaic systems?

A: Installing these systems allows companies to demonstrate a concrete commitment to sustainability, consume renewable energy, and obtain additional benefits such as savings. We install systems that generate about 500kW each, which is allowed under the distributed generation regulation. These systems help companies meet their corporate sustainability goals.

Q: How does Brío Energía tailor its solutions to its clients’ needs and how does it help them meet their sustainability goals?

A: We start by focusing on understanding the client’s energy consumption and management systems to identify which type of service or strategy is most suitable, whether it be qualified supply, on-site generation, or a combination of both. We also assess the client’s priorities, especially for large consumers aiming to meet global ESG targets.

Grupo GP ensures that all necessary infrastructure is in place from the design stage, including electricity, water, natural gas, and roads. This facilitates our clients’ operations, especially those located near the US border, as these industrial buildings are fully equipped to support photovoltaic systems and other key infrastructure to help them meet their sustainability objectives.

Q: What challenges did you face when helping clients migrate to the wholesale electricity market?

A: Migrating to the wholesale electricity market is a complex process that requires a detailed assessment of each client’s energy consumption and specific needs. Through our personalized approach and industry expertise, we have been able to guide our clients through this process, ensuring they gain the greatest benefits possible, including savings and a reliable electricity supply.

Q: What role do Clean Energy Certificates (CELs) and International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) play in Brío Energía’s offer?

A: CELs play a crucial role, particularly for companies wanting to certify that their consumption is 100% renewable. We offer these international instruments to ensure that clients’ energy comes from renewable sources. We also provide a monitoring portal that allows clients to see how much renewable energy they are generating, which can be used for their corporate reporting.

Q: What financing options does Brío Energía offer for photovoltaic solutions?

A: Through our solutions, clients do not make any initial investment. Grupo GP acquires and installs the photovoltaic systems, and Brío Energía handles everything from construction to commissioning and system monitoring. These systems have a lifespan of about 25 years, and we monitor the assets throughout this period to ensure they operate at optimal levels. For tenants, this is attractive because they do not have to invest, and they benefit from economic savings through shared savings schemes or Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Q: What are Brio Energía’s main objectives for 2025, and what milestones will it hit during the year?

A: Brio Energía’s main objectives for 2025 focus on expanding its support across Mexico and increasing its role in the renewable energy sector. While the company has traditionally worked closely with Grupo GP, it aims to extend its services to any business in Mexico looking to demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability.

We will also continue to support the development of 35 industrial facilities with on-site generation and storage systems, ensuring that these facilities are prepared for potential regulatory changes that could allow for increased distributed generation capacity. We have reached about 30% of this target. The company is also preparing to help businesses across the country reduce energy expenditure and improve operational reliability by implementing tailored energy strategies. Brio Energía’s long-term vision is to be the go-to partner for companies seeking energy autonomy and sustainability solutions, regardless of their industry or geographic location.
