Crossings from the United States into Mexico via the Colombia-Laredo port of entry in Nuevo Leon have increased during Governor Samuel García’s administration, according to Marco González, Nuevo Leon’s Minister of Regional and Agricultural Development. He says the increase is based on records from Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) and does not yet include crossings from October, November, and December 2025.

According to the INM records, from January to September 2025, the number of Personal Entry Permits issued to locals and tourists entering Mexico through Puerto Colombia–Laredo reached 69,603. González says there were 51,500 permits issued during all of 2024. The 2025 figure represents an increase of over 265% when compared to 2020, he adds.

González also says that, for the first time in recent history, the City of Laredo and Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) enabled 24-hour processing for light vehicles entering Mexico on Dec. 19, 20, and 21.

González says CODEFRONT, the state entity that administers Puerto Colombia–Laredo, has maintained a Paisano Assistance Module during the holiday period. He lists free services including WiFi, restrooms, 24-hour parking for overnight stays, guidance on migration procedures, medical attention, free copies, and BANJERCITO modules for processing procedures. He also says the state organizes escorted caravans with the Civil Force for travelers on Nuevo Leon highways.

Nuevo Leon officials have also linked the port’s growth to broader coordination and infrastructure plans. In the 2024 MoU on lane expansion, Nuevo Leon and the City of Laredo signed a memorandum of understanding to double the number of lanes at the Colombia Bridge from eight to 16, according to the information provided.

Back in October 2025, the Government of Nuevo Leon signed an agreement with the Logistics Cluster and the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster. The stated goal is to strengthen economic and social development by leveraging the bridge as a strategic crossing point. Emmanuel Loo, Deputy Minister of Investment, says the state wants companies and clusters investing in Nuevo Leon to route logistics operations through the bridge and the La Gloria–Colombia highway.

González adds that in less than four years, traffic at the crossing has increased, reaching up to 7,000 heavy and light vehicles per day, and that the agreement with the clusters is intended to strengthen the border region further.

González also reports growth in light-vehicle crossings from Nuevo Leon into the United States via Puerto Colombia–Laredo. He says that 468,994 light vehicles were recorded in 2025, which he described as a 68.80% increase compared with 2021, adding that December 2025 figures were not yet included in that total.
