Q: How are Epiroc's operations in Mexico evolving, and how is the company adapting to recent government decisions concerning mining permits?

A: Epiroc has been present in Mexico for 72 years, adapting to market needs regardless of changing government dynamics. Despite government restrictions on exploration projects, we remain committed to helping mines already in exploration and production to better validate and exploit their deposits. We also offer our assistance to the mining sector to convince the government to continue exploration activities, while ensuring that these activities are done in an environmentally responsible manner. We need minerals, so we have to support the mining sector.

Q: How has Epiroc adapted to the evolving needs of the Mexican market while incorporating new technologies?

A: Epiroc has responded ably to the dynamic needs of the Mexican market by actively embracing new technologies. Over the past four years, we strategically acquired over 20 companies and introduced a new division called Digital Solutions. Our focus on innovation extends to exploration, where recent acquisitions have significantly strengthened our capabilities. We acquired Australia´s Corescan, in Mexico based in Hermosillo, Sonora, which specializes in accurate deposit analysis, enriching our understanding of mineral deposits. Epiroc also acquired a leader in advanced drillhole data analysis, allowing it to provide invaluable information on ore composition. The addition of US’s and Australia's Schramm also introduces new capabilities in inverse simulation, optimizing surface and underground mining operations in terms of efficiency and profitability.

The Mexican market has not resisted these innovations, but it is a long process for them to implement these systems. It will be years before the country leads in mining technology; however, Mexico has the potential to be the top mining country for Epiroc in Latin America.

Q: How does Epiroc balance digital innovation with environmental sustainability, particularly in reducing carbon emissions?

A: Epiroc’s Accelerate the Transformation campaign reflects our commitment to sustainability. Since becoming an independent company in 2017, we have focused on innovation, electrification, and digitalization. Aligned with the Paris Agreement, we are accelerating our transition to electric and battery-powered solutions, aiming to offer all underground mining machines in these versions by 2025. In Mexico, our diverse range of sustainable equipment, from track loaders to drills, reflects our dedication to reducing emissions and creating safer working environments.

Q: What are Epiroc's objectives for 2024 in Mexico, given the transition in government?

A: Our objectives for 2024 revolve around strengthening our presence in the country and shifting to a solutions-based approach rather than purely sales. Our goal is to offer comprehensive security and productivity solutions tailored to each customer's needs. Despite possible market fluctuations due to the elections, we remain optimistic about Mexico's mining sector. Once we know the electoral results, the investment will be adapted to the policies of the new government. Hopefully the new government will help us to promote a more sustainable and inclusive mining industry.
