Mine Collapses in Badiraguato, Sinaloa
The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC), part of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), confirmed the recovery of two workers' bodies following a mine collapse in Badiraguato, Sinaloa.
According to CNPC, the recovery operation involved the National Guard and state and municipal civil protection authorities. The collapse occurred in the El Potrero de Tepaca community, as workers conducted slope stabilization and sampling tasks to evaluate the feasibility of exploiting an old mine. Five persons were present at the site during the incident, and two workers, aged 50 and 37, were trapped under falling earth and rocks. No additional individuals were injured or trapped in the incident, reports CNPC.
By the time of writing, authorities have not disclosed which mining company owns the collapsed mine. National Guard personnel, alongside state and municipal civil protection units, continue to monitor the area and carry out necessary safety measures. Local Security and Public Transit authorities are also involved in securing the site. “We are addressing the contingency resulting from the collapse of a mine in Potrero de Tepaca, Badiraguato. I have issued timely instructions to Sinaloa Civil Protection, which is already on site,” writes Rubén Rocha, Governor of Sinaloa, on his Twitter account.
