Pedro Rivero Appointed New President of CAMIMEX
Pedro Rivero has been appointed the new president of CAMIMEX, succeeding Jaime Gutiérrez. During his tenure, Rivero will focus on strengthening communication channels with the federal government to benefit both the Mexican economy and the mining sector's prosperity.
During its ordinary session, the CAMIMEX Board of Directors nominated Rivero as the chamber’s president. He also serves as CEO of Autlán, a company that operates across the Americas and Europe and focuses on the responsible use of natural resources. Over nearly two decades at Autlán, he has held various roles, including Vice President of Operations. In these roles, he has led initiatives in organic growth, sustainability, mine openings, facility upgrades, environmental remediation, and metallurgical projects.
Rivero González holds dual degrees in Engineering Systems of Administration and Economics from Columbia University and an MBA from INSEAD.
Rivero is also Vice President of the National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO), a member of CAMIMEX's Board of Directors, and Vice President of the Employers' Confederation in Nuevo Leon (COPARMEX NL).
In his inaugural address, Rivero emphasized the mining sector's role in supporting industries, the economy, and the country's climate change mitigation and sustainable development efforts. "Responsible mining is crucial as it provides the inputs necessary for developing clean technologies and sustainable solutions," he said, adding that he will work to promote dialogue with authorities and related organizations to foster public policies supporting responsible mining in Mexico.
Francisco Cervantes, President, Business Coordinating Council (CCE), praised the mining industry's economic and cultural significance, noting its role in providing jobs to communities and employing over 72,000 women. Eduardo Ramírez, Secretary General, Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN), underscored the importance of collaboration, stating that mining is the foundation for many production chains and drives development in over 70 sectors.
CAMIMEX members recognized outgoing President Gutiérrez for his leadership from September 2021 to July 2024, particularly his efforts in developing industry standards and best practices. Gutiérrez's role as a representative during challenging times was acknowledged as instrumental in maintaining sector unity.
