Tocvan Ventures announced that drilling at its El Picacho Gold-Silver Project in Sonora, Mexico has begun. Moreover, it explained that the drilling is focused on two main areas within the San Ramon Prospect: Las Guijas and San Ramon. Both areas have returned high-grade gold with silver mineralization.

“We are very excited to be drilling at El Picacho, where there is no shortage of drill targets to evaluate the potential of this highly prospective area,” said Brodie Sutherland, CEO, Tocvan Ventures.

In addition, the company is planning to tie together the low-grade mineralization seen in historic drilling with the high-grade sampled from the works through targeted drilling. Furthermore, analysis and interpretations of this data will be used to plan follow-up drilling. El Picacho is host to several other target areas permitted for drilling that span across the 24km² project area.

“San Ramon has long been our priority target due to the established historic workings identifying high-grade structures with the potential of low-grade mineralization in between. There are a lot of parallels to the local San Francisco Mine which was discovered from very similar surface characteristics and substantial artisanal workings. We look forward to evaluating these results as we start to unlock the potential of El Picacho,” added Sutherland.

In April, Sutherland told MBN that the company had optimistic expectations for El Picacho. Moreover, he said it is a strong exploration project; it is in an early stage and it has seen very little drilling historically. The company said it would like to start drilling in November 2022, beginning with some strong targets. “We see many similarities in terms of host rocks and geology with the highly prolific San Francisco mine. The company fully expects to intersect mineralization, but El Picacho holds a type of deposit that would take time to define exactly how big its potential could be. We also see significant indications of silver,” said Sutherland.

El Pilar and El Picacho are Tocvan’s two Mexican exploration projects. El Pilar is a gold-silver project where to date over 22km of drilling has been completed. It is located in the Sonora Gold District, the country’s most prolific gold production district that houses over 38 percent of the national production. El Picacho is a gold-silver project located 140km north of Hermosillo, spanning over 2,400ha. Five primary zones of gold-silver mineralization have already been identified at the project.
