DHL Halts High-Value B2C Shipments to the United States
DHL has announced it will temporarily suspend business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments to private individuals in the United States where the declared customs value exceeds US$800, effective Monday, April 21, in response to new US customs regulations.
This decision follows recent regulatory changes that lowered the threshold for formal customs entry from US$2,500 to US$800, effective April 5. As a result, DHL has seen a significant increase in the number of shipments requiring formal customs clearance, straining processing capacity and causing multi-day delays for shipments over the new threshold.
To manage the backlog and maintain service reliability, DHL is pausing the collection and shipping of high-value B2C parcels to US consumers. This temporary suspension will remain in effect until further notice.
DHL highlights that B2C shipments under US$800 are not affected and that B2B shipments — even those above US$800 — are not part of the suspension, although they may also face delays due to the increased customs workload.
DHL is working around the clock to scale up operations and adapt to the new regulatory environment. The company will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves. Shippers are advised to review the declared value of their US-bound shipments and adjust logistics plans accordingly.
