Freight Technologies (Fr8Tech) is officially launching its AI Lab, an initiative aimed at enhancing cross-border freight operations through advanced AI technologies. In collaboration with the Universidad de Monterrey, this initiative marks a new era for the logistics industry in Mexico and the broader US-Mexico trade corridor.

“Freight Technologies’ AI Lab marks a new era in logistics, where AI is not just a tool but a foundational pillar of innovation. With a commitment to research, collaboration, and technological advancement, the Company is poised to transform the logistics landscape, making cross-border freight more efficient, intelligent, and future-ready,” says Javier Selgas, CEO, Fr8Tech.

The AI Lab is a strategic innovation hub where cutting-edge machine learning and cognitive AI systems are being developed to enhance the intelligence and efficiency of freight logistics. By leveraging vast datasets from thousands of shipments and trade lanes, Fr8Tech’s AI Lab is uniquely positioned to design self-optimizing logistics systems that are not only predictive but adaptive — capable of understanding the intricacies of real-world freight movement, says the company.

The core mission of the AI Lab involves developing AI-powered logistics solutions with tangible, real-world applications; integrating cognitive architectures that elevate decision making and automation, fostering meaningful collaboration between academia and industry, and building and supporting a robust network of elite AI talent.

Under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Fr8Tech and Universidad de Monterrey will co-develop AI technologies that align academic research with commercial applications. Professors, PhD researchers, and students will collaborate directly with Fr8Tech’s data and logistics teams to address real industry challenges with practical, AI-driven solutions.

"It is of utmost importance that academic initiatives are directed towards real, high-impact projects and that a synergy is fostered between students and the freight industry," says Antonio Martínez, Associate Professor specializing in AI, Universidad de Monterrey.

This partnership is designed to equip students with hands-on experience and access to cutting-edge freight data, enable Fr8Tech to tap into a growing pool of top AI talent, and lay the groundwork for expanded collaboration with other institutions and global AI research communities.

“We trust that, over time, the ties between our AI Program and the Company will continue to strengthen,” says Irving Cruz-Matías, Associate Professor of Computing, Universidad de Monterrey.
