A.P. Moller-Maersk has unveiled the “Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio,” an advanced digital solution designed to help cargo owners regain control over customs and tariff processes. As geopolitical tensions and regulatory changes disrupt long-standing trade norms, this new AI-driven platform offers clarity, compliance, and cost-efficiency to international supply chains.

“Today’s environment is defined by unpredictability, with newly imposed and suddenly postponed tariffs creating what many of our customers describe as ‘tariff chaos. Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio is our answer — bringing clarity, compliance, agility, and cost optimization to global supply chains,” says Lars Karlsson, Global Head of Trade & Customs Consulting at Maersk.

Maersk’s new platform is positioned as a game-changer in global logistics. Rather than relying on fragmented networks of up to 30 or 40 customs brokers, the Studio provides a centralized platform powered by AI. This not only eliminates redundancies but also drastically improves visibility and reduces errors in customs declaration and tariff application.

Key functionalities of the Trade & Tariff Studio include:

  • AI-powered tariff engineering, optimizing over 6,000 product codes and 20,000 sub-codes

  • Upstream compliance screening to preempt delays, detentions, and penalties

  • Real-time regulatory updates fed by Maersk’s 2,700 global customs experts and trusted data partners

  • FTA opportunity tracking, helping companies unlock savings through proper FTA utilization

Initially available for US-bound imports starting June 28, the platform will be rolled out globally by August. Though optimized for Maersk’s integrated logistics customers, it can also function as a standalone solution, enabling widespread access to its powerful capabilities.

In addition to tariff management, the platform is built to help companies tackle rising regulatory complexity, including product safety, labor standards, and upcoming environmental regulations such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and anti-deforestation mandates. Non-compliance in these areas can mean heavy fines or market exclusion, making proactive compliance essential.

“Customs declaration is one of the most complex areas in global logistics. With Maersk Trade & Tariff Studio, we are not only simplifying that complexity — we are turning it into a competitive advantage for our customers,” says Karlsson.

As customs controls grow stricter — particularly in the United States, where inspection rates have spiked — Maersk aims to solidify its role as both a strategic consultant and fulfillment partner. With the Trade & Tariff Studio, customers can expect enhanced regulatory compliance, reduced duties and operating costs, faster border crossings, and integrated management of global and local customs teams.
