Mexico City Launches New Trolleybus Line for Sustainable Mobility
The Mexico City Electric Transport Service (STE) has announced the official launch of Trolleybus Line 13, which began operations on June 7. This new route runs between Constitucion de 1917 and Mixcoac, aiming to transport 36,000 passengers daily across the capital.
The Trolleybus Line 13 spans 29.9km, crossing three key boroughs: Iztapalapa, Benito Juarez, and Coyoacan. The route includes 41 stops and two terminal stations, and will be serviced by 46 trolleybuses — 28 articulated and 18 standard units.
These vehicles offer a range of up to 75km and are equipped with cutting-edge safety and accessibility features, including: onboard surveillance cameras, priority seating for people with disabilities, wheelchair-accessible ramps, kneeling capabilities for easier boarding, and designated areas for female passengers.
Line 13 will significantly enhance intermodal connectivity, linking with multiple transit systems, including Metro lines 2, 7, 8, and 12, Cablebús Line 2, trolleybus Lines 3 and 10, Metrobús Lines 1 and 5, RTP bus routes, and transfer centers at Constitución de 1917 and Mixcoac
A standout feature is its connection with Trolleybus Line 10 at Constitución de 1917, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly between Mixcoac and Santa Marta or Chalco via a simple transfer.
The service will operate daily from 5:00 AM to midnight, with a flat fare of MX$7 pesos (US$$0.37). Rides are free for children under five, people with disabilities, and adults over 60.
