Between January and May 2025, Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) collected MX$593.6 billion (US$31.01 billion) in customs revenue, a nominal increase of 28.5% compared to the same period in 2024. This marks the highest amount ever recorded during this timeframe since the agency’s establishment.

This strategy has focused on strengthening audit processes, modernizing control systems, and digitizing customs clearance operations. As a result, the agency has achieved greater efficiency across Mexico’s 50 customs offices, without compromising fiscal oversight or compliance with foreign trade regulations.

This upward trend in revenue began in 2024, when ANAM reached a record annual collection of MX$1.2 trillion (US$62.66 billion), a 5.0% nominal increase from 2023. During that year, Value Added Tax (VAT) accounted for 72.6% of total customs income, reaffirming its role as the primary source of customs-related revenue.

Customs revenue is a cornerstone of Mexico’s public finances. Its sustained growth not only ensures critical state income but also reflects the technical capability and strategic direction of the Mexican customs system.
