The Government of Nuevo Leon, through the Ministry of Economy and its agency CODEFRONT, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Logistics Cluster and the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster, aiming to strengthen economic and social development. The initiative seeks to leverage the competitive advantages of the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge as a strategic international crossing point.

“We want all users from different clusters and companies investing in the state to channel their logistics operations through the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge and the new La Gloria-Colombia highway,” says Emmanuel Loo, Deputy Minister of Investment of Nuevo Leon.

Among the commitments established in the agreement are the coordination and formalization of partnerships with governmental, private, and social entities to install and operate a medical clinic within the Foreign Trade Facilitation Center (CEFACIL). The agreement also aims to ensure the institutional alignment necessary for the project’s long-term feasibility and success.

Marco Antonio González, Minister of Regional and Agricultural Development, highlights that in less than four years, traffic at the Colombia-Laredo crossing has grown exponentially, reaching up to 7,000 heavy and light vehicles per day. “The momentum we are building with the Ministry of Economy and both clusters will further strengthen our border,” he says.

The Health and Medical Tourism Cluster will oversee the operation and management of the clinic, ensuring compliance with high standards of quality, safety, and patient care. The facility will offer specialized medical services to international visitors, consolidating Nuevo Leon’s position as a competitive medical tourism destination.

“This agreement is highly significant, as through the Texas–Nuevo Leon border, we will be continuously promoting the state as a leading health destination,” says Rodrigo García, Director, Health and Medical Tourism Cluster.

The Logistics Cluster will design and implement logistical schemes to enable the efficient, orderly, and secure transfer of visitors from the United States to the clinic, while coordinating with authorities on operational and cross-border mobility aspects. “There is a need to collaborate in Colombia, to develop it, not just as a border bridge, but as a city, a world-class border hub,” says Ramón Muñozcano, Director, Logistics Cluster.

The agreement officially entered into force on Oct. 2 and will remain in effect indefinitely, marking a new step in consolidating the Colombia-Laredo International Bridge as a strategic center for trade, health, and regional development.
