PEMEX has received CNH approval to drill an exploratory well in Poza Rica: the Yawa-1EXP well. It will be situated in the Municipality of Tihuatlan, about 9.5km northeast of Poza Rica.

The Yawa-1EXP well is part of the modification to the exploration plan for assignment AE-0182-M-WAYA. Following the drilling phase, PEMEX plans to conduct a conventional production test to evaluate the geological target. The expected hydrocarbon is oil, with prospective resources estimated at 4.7MMboe, with a geological success probability of 43%.

Drilling and completion operations are scheduled to span 64 days in total, with 35 days allocated for drilling (from April 22 to May 22, 2024) and 29 days for completion (from June 16 to July 14, 2024).

The project is estimated to cost US$9 million, with US$6.1 million designated for drilling activities and US$2.9 million for completion efforts.
