Casinos Under Money Laundering Investigation. Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch announced that a coordinated investigation between the Security Cabinet and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) has identified 13 irregular physical and virtual casinos allegedly involved in a money laundering scheme.
The establishments were located in the states of Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California, the State of Mexico, Chiapas, and Mexico City. Harfuch reported that the operation allowed authorities to identify risk patterns, fiscal irregularities, unusual operations, and transnational links that were affecting Mexico's financial system.
The scheme, which had an international scope, reportedly involved fake bets and the theft of the identities of various individuals. Harfuch also noted that the UIF collaborated with the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) during the investigation.
Fiscal Procurator Griselda Galeano detailed the money laundering scheme used by the casinos. She explained it involved deceiving a person and stealing their identity. The perpetrators would then send prepaid cards with money of unknown origin to the victim for use in the casino. After the money was bet, the casino would reflect that the person had won millions of pesos. This money was either never received by the victim and was instead sent abroad, or, in some cases, the victim did receive winnings but was then instructed to use them for more casino operations, thereby laundering the funds.
Old Politicians Join Gen Z Protests. President Claudia Sheinbaum commented on the upcoming Gen Z march against violence, scheduled for Nov. 15, 2025, in Mexico City. She requested that information be provided about who is organizing and convening the mobilization.
The president noted that several older politicians have already announced their attendance. She specifically mentioned former president Vicente Fox, observing that he does not belong to Gen Z, and added that PRI legislators in the Chamber of Deputies have also confirmed they will participate.
