Judicial Reform. President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged ministers voting on the judicial reform not to oppose it, emphasizing that the reform upholds constitutional principles and that objections lack solid grounds.
Recently, Minister Juan Luis González presented a proposal questioning the constitutionality of the judicial reform, concluding that “this unconstitutionality action is partially admissible and partially founded.” The proposal seeks to invalidate critical elements of the reform, including the election processes for Circuit Magistrates and District Judges. However, it maintains the principle of free, direct, and secret elections for Supreme Court Justices, magistrates of the Superior Chamber and regional chambers of the Federal Electoral Tribunal, and magistrates of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal.
Mayo Zambada. Alejandro Gertz Manero, Attorney General, confirmed that the kidnapping of Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada occurred in Mexico and accused the US government of only disclosing partial information. “They are not telling us everything; we have already submitted a request for international legal assistance. They have responded to some items, but not to this. We need to keep pressing, and the full truth will come out.”
While details surrounding his capture remain unclear, it is known that the United States was informed that Joaquín Guzmán López would surrender to US authorities on July 25. At 2:30pm, the United States received confirmation that Guzmán López was on a flight to the country, and at 2:40pm, they were informed that “El Mayo” Zambada was also on board. The Mexican government identified Larry Curtis Parker as the pilot of the plane on which they arrived and were subsequently arrested. Parker, however, denies any involvement.
Zambada is facing multiple charges related to organized crime and drug trafficking. Recently, US prosecutors accused him of conspiring to manufacture and distribute fentanyl, which has become the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45.
Security Information. Omar García, Minister of Security, presented a report on the first 28 days of Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, noting significant achievements: the seizure of 820 firearms, the arrest of 824 individuals, and the confiscation of 33.8t of drugs.
Preliminary data from the federal government shows that Sheinbaum's administration began with 80 homicides on her first day and 85 on her second day. The daily average of victims in October is 87.3. Guanajuato remains the most violent state, marked by persistent murders, armed assaults, disappearances, shootouts, attacks on businesses, and road blockades.
