Plans for 2026. Looking ahead to 2026, the President outlined her administration’s main initiatives, including consolidating public and private investment, advancing Plan México, and launching the registration for the universal public health system. She stressed that citizen confidence in the fourth transformation is rooted in honesty and tangible results, and maintaining popular support depends on fulfilling the government’s commitments.
“If we continue to govern with our principles and remain close to the people, support will continue. We are aware of this, and when there are demands, we remain open to listening. As I said, 2025 went well, and 2026 will be even better,” she affirmed.
Interoceanic Train Accident. Sheinbaum announced she would travel to Oaxaca to meet with families of the victims of the Interoceanic Train derailment on Line Z. An ISSSTE team is already on site assisting the injured, and the president will personally engage with families to provide support.
Minister of the Navy, Admiral Raymundo Morales, confirmed that 13 people died and dozens were injured in the derailment. Nine were treated on-site, 108 were transported to hospitals, and 44 remain hospitalized. Twelve of the deceased have been located, while one remains in rescue operations.
The train, traveling between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, was carrying 241 passengers and nine crew members. Authorities reported that the derailment occurred while the train was navigating a curve near the town of Nizanda. The Mexican Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been opened.
Cananea Strike and Río Sonora Plan. Governor Alfonso Durazo called the resolution of the Cananea miners’ strike and the launch of an environmental justice plan for the Río Sonora historic achievements. He emphasized that these long-standing conflicts, neglected by previous governments, have found solutions thanks to the political will of the current administration.
Alicia Bárcena, Minister, SEMARNAT, also presented the comprehensive environmental justice plan for Cananea and the Río Sonora Basin, aimed at addressing the impacts of the 2014 copper sulfate spill from the Buenavista del Cobre mine, which affected 288.8km of the river and directly impacted 20,000 people, affecting health, water access, the local economy, and the environment.
