The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), in coordination with the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), the State Ministry of Environment of Hidalgo, and the municipal government of Tula de Allende, conducted a river cleanup and restoration effort along the Tula River and its feeder canals.

The initiative involved 219 participants from both government and civil society. During the activity, authorities and volunteers removed 1.5t of waste, 26m3 of organic matter, and 7m3 of debris. Additionally, 120 native trees were planted along the riverbanks, tree health assessments were conducted, hay was removed from local trees, and an informative workshop was held for participants.

This exercise is the first of its kind and is part of the Tula River restoration project, one of the 100 commitments of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Parallel efforts include desilting and slope stabilization along 3.9 km of the river using articulated mats, carried out by federal environmental authorities in coordination with the municipal government.
