C40 Cities, VEMO, and The Climate Pledge have announced a strategic alliance to accelerate the electrification of freight transport in Mexico. The partnership aims to promote electric vehicle adoption in the freight sector, develop multi-purpose charging infrastructure, and create incentives and public policies to advance zero-emission logistics. A  central element is expanding Red de Carga VEMO (RCV), the country’s largest and most reliable electric charging network, which invites companies of all sizes to integrate their fleets.

In the pilot phase, leading logistics firms will test the charging infrastructure under real operating conditions over three months. The program will collect data on operational efficiency, financial performance, and emissions reduction, contributing to the goals of Mexico City’s Climate Action Program.

The initiative is part of Laneshift, a regional program led by C40 and The Climate Pledge—co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism—designed to decarbonize medium- and heavy-duty freight and optimize logistics routes in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico. C40 estimates the project could cut up to 1,890 tons of CO₂ equivalent annually, while creating green jobs, supporting a just transition in urban logistics, and improving air quality in Mexico City.

“This alliance shows how climate action can translate into concrete and ambitious solutions,” said Cristina Argudo, deputy regional director for Latin America, C40. “It accelerates the transition to electric last-mile fleets, improves air quality, and expands access to charging infrastructure while promoting an inclusive and fair transition.”
