In 2025, Mexico’s tire sector made significant sustainability strides, driven by innovations from Bridgestone and Michelin.

Bridgestone’s global E8 Commitment focuses on reducing its carbon footprint, optimizing resources, and advancing sustainable materials through eight guiding principles: Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease, and Empowerment. In Mexico, the company cut water usage by 19% via Bandag technology and recycling systems. Its Cuernavaca plant achieved a 96% landfill diversion rate and operates a full water treatment system. Bridgestone also collected over 60 tons of used tires through its Llantatón program in 2025, preventing pollution and health risks. The program has recovered more than 800 tons since inception.

“Recycling is not a one-time action, but a constant responsibility,” said Leoncio Rojas, Senior Environment Manager for Bridgestone Latin America. The company aims for carbon neutrality by 2050.

Michelin launched the Primacy 5 tire in Mexico, offering a 6% lower environmental impact than its predecessor. The tire, designed for sedans and SUVs—including EVs—delivers an 18% longer lifespan, improved rolling resistance, and enhanced wet braking. Optimized design reduces noise and improves ride comfort, aligning with evolving consumer preferences.

Sustainable tire production is complementing Mexico’s growing EV market—including the upcoming domestic Olinia vehicles.
