The Employers' Confederation of Mexico (COPARMEX) will lead a business delegation to Japan on July 21–30, 2025, as part of its broader strategy to promote the internationalization of Mexican companies. The visit will cover Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo, and includes a leadership development program organized in collaboration with the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS).
Participating business leaders are expected to gain practical knowledge of Japanese business culture, sustainability practices, innovation strategies, and corporate models. The program aims to enhance their strategic vision and adaptability in complex global markets.
The mission aligns with COPARMEX’s view that expanding into global markets is not optional but essential for long-term growth. Japan represents a key partner in that effort, offering opportunities in processed foods, beverages, agri-industrial goods, advanced manufacturing, and innovative technologies. The inclusion of SMEs in these efforts is expected to promote local economic development, says the organization.
Mexico and Japan share a long-standing relationship built over four centuries, marked by the contributions of the Japanese community in Mexico, the growth of Japanese businesses after World War II, and decades of academic and professional exchange between both countries.
This year, Mexico and Japan mark the 20th anniversary of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which took effect on April 1, 2005. Over the past two decades, the agreement has strengthened trade relations between the two countries, positioning Japan as Mexico’s sixth-largest global trading partner. As of 2024, bilateral trade surpassed US$23 billion, with Japanese investment representing over 63% of total Asian investment in Mexico.
COPARMEX sees this relationship as a foundation to expand exports, connect to new global value chains, and respond to growing demand in Japan for traceability, innovation, and quality.
The delegation will hold meetings with trade agencies, business chambers, and government officials. Visits to companies in the automotive, electronics, medical, agro-industrial, energy and logistics sectors are also planned. The organization aims to create tangible investment opportunities and foster collaboration across industries. By facilitating access to Asian markets, COPARMEX aims to position Mexican businesses, especially those offering processed foods, industrial inputs, beverages, and technology solutions, as competitive players in one of the world’s most dynamic economic regions.
