Global employers are increasingly prioritizing strategic thinking, problem-solving, and AI skills in MBA graduates, signaling strong hiring prospects despite economic challenges, according to the latest survey by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

According to the latest annual survey of global corporate recruiters by the GMAC, problem-solving and strategic thinking remain the top skills employers seek. Notably, familiarity with AI tools has surged in importance, expected to become the most valued skill within five years.

The 2024 GMAC survey, which polled 1,108 recruiters and hiring managers from 46 countries, including nearly two-thirds from Global Fortune 500 companies, reflects evolving employer priorities as businesses adapt to technological disruption.

Joy Jones, CEO, GMAC, emphasized the growing role of AI in business strategy and decision making. She noted that employers increasingly turn to business school graduates for their versatility, strategic mindset, and ability to innovate amid technological change.

Key findings for prospective and recent graduates highlight strong employer confidence in business education. Up to 99% of global employers trust business schools to prepare graduates for success. Nearly two-thirds believe skills gained through graduate business degrees are more critical than ever as companies adopt emerging technologies.

The report also underscores the enduring importance of human skills in the modern workforce. Over half of employers value communication skills in hiring decisions, alongside emotional intelligence and adaptability. Flexibility in work and study is another critical factor: 56% of employers agree that business degree skills are increasingly vital in remote or hybrid work environments. Additionally, 55% equally value graduates from online and in-person programs.

The survey challenges some stereotypes about Generation Z professionals, with 61% of recruiters agreeing that recent business school graduates display professionalism comparable to previous cohorts.

Hiring projections remain positive for business graduates. About 76% of employers plan to maintain or increase MBA hiring in 2025 compared to 2024. In fact, 90% intend to recruit MBA holders, surpassing demand for candidates with only bachelor’s degrees or those transitioning from other companies.
