Mexico City’s labor authorities have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at improving legal support for workers and enhancing the efficiency of labor justice services. The agreement, between the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (STyFE) and the Federal Labor Defense Attorney’s Office (PROFEDET), defines the scope of services and representation under the country’s labor reform.

Inés González, Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, stresses the need to restore the central functions of the local and federal labor defense offices to support labor conciliation centers. “The labor reform made the defense offices less visible, and it is critical to fortify their role because their work underpins the efficiency of labor conciliation centers,” says Gonzalez. She adds that the agreement aims to simplify legal processes and reduce bureaucratic barriers for workers seeking support.

Plácido Morales, Federal Labor Defense Attorney, says that the agreement serves as a model for collaboration among all labor defense offices and related labor justice institutions nationwide. “Many state entities are involved in labor justice administration, but the ultimate goal is one: justice. We are establishing obligations and commitments, and we must also act on them,” Morales says.

The agreement reinforces the commitment of the Mexico City government, led by Clara Brugada, to improve citizen services and provide more agile and effective mechanisms to assist workers involved in labor disputes. By coordinating federal and local labor defense offices, authorities aim to enhance access to legal guidance and strengthen protections for employees, supporting a more robust and equitable labor market.
