OpenAI announced new initiatives aimed at expanding access to AI skills and connecting businesses with AI-trained talent. The company is launching the OpenAI Jobs Platform and expanding its OpenAI Academy with certifications to prepare workers for emerging roles in the AI economy.
“The OpenAI Jobs Platform will have knowledgeable, experienced candidates at every level, and opportunities for anyone looking to put their skills to use,” says Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications, OpenAI.
The Jobs Platform is designed to match businesses of all sizes with workers trained in AI in the United States. It will include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments seeking AI expertise.
To address the need for verifiable skills, OpenAI will introduce OpenAI Certifications. The initiative comes at a time when many graduates face difficulties entering the workforce, not due to a lack of knowledge but because they are unable to demonstrate their competencies. The certifications will measure levels of AI fluency, from basic workplace applications to advanced prompt engineering, and will be integrated into the OpenAI Academy, which has already supported more than 2 million people in learning AI tools. Participants will be able to prepare for and obtain certification directly through ChatGPT’s Study Mode.
Study Mode adjusts its guidance using diagnostic questions and previous interactions to deliver more personalized support. Rather than simply delivering answers, the tool asks open-ended questions, provides hints, and encourages self-reflection, helping students better understand the reasoning behind solutions. OpenAI says that its approach to training is informed by past lessons on workforce development, aiming to link training directly with employer demand to improve job placement and wage outcomes.
OpenAI’s initiatives also resonate with labor market trends in Mexico, where an estimated 10,900 professionals have more than two years of experience in AI and data analytics. Local technology executives increasingly expect AI partners to demonstrate proven business cases and sector-specific expertise. The professional services market for data analytics and AI among large enterprises in the country reached US$590 million in 2024, underscoring the growing need for certified skills and applied knowledge.
