Tele2 Launches VoLTE
Tele2, the Swedish telecommunications giant, has taken a step forward in the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), announcing the international launch of its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service. As 2G and 3G networks become less prominent, Tele2 seeks to provide advanced options to IoT customers who still rely on traditional voice services, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable technological innovation.
The deployment of Voice Over LTE (VoLTE), which means "voice calls over LTE or 4G", on Tele2's Swedish network, as well as on select networks globally, marks a breakthrough in the IoT industry. This move is intended to enable Tele2 IoT customers to use next-generation technology to meet their voice calling needs. "This launch reflects Tele2's commitment to excellence and is in line with our vision of enabling a society of limitless possibilities," says Cyril Deschanel, General Manager of IoT, Tele2.
VoLTE aims to be a superior alternative to conventional 2G/3G voice services by offering higher data rates, near-instant connection, smoother and higher quality calls, as well as less wear and tear on IoT devices. In addition, the global launch of VoLTE enables Tele2 IoT to support this technology on any Tele2-provided SIM card, strengthening its position as a market leader.
This announcement, according to Deschanel, not only responds to the impending closure of 2G and 3G networks in voice services, scheduled for December 2025 in Sweden, but also aligns with Tele2's sustainability efforts. VoLTE is also intended to facilitate the transition of IoT customers to more energy-efficient devices, thus meeting today's sustainability standards.
This global launch of VoLTE not only reflects Tele2's commitment to technological innovation, but also demonstrates the importance of strategic partnerships in driving economic and sustainable development in an ever-changing technology landscape.
