Amazon México, Ministry of Economy Boost “Hecho en México”
Mexico's Ministry of Economy and Amazon México sign a collaboration agreement aimed at promoting products made in Mexico both domestically and internationally, officials announced Wednesday. The initiative seeks to create new opportunities for Mexican businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Marcelo Ebrard, Minister of Economy, emphasizes the value of the “Hecho en México” certification, emphasizing that each item bearing the seal represents the authenticity and identity of the nation. “This distinction highlights the cultural and economic significance of Mexican-made products,” he says.
Under the agreement, Amazon will support the “Hecho en México” program, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The company has committed to featuring certified products on its digital platform and providing training programs to entrepreneurs.
The partnership will focus on digitalizing businesses and expanding the international presence of Mexican products, says Pedro Huerta, Director, Amazon México. He highlights efforts to integrate more SMEs into the digital economy.
Customers can identify certified products with the “Hecho en México” seal on Amazon’s platform, which features over 80,000 items across multiple categories, all produced by Mexican companies and manufacturers.
Government officials including Bárbara Botello and Ximena Escobedo, who oversee the government strategy associated with the program attended the ceremony. The partnership aims to provide more producers with access to Amazon’s digital tools, including logistics services, advisory programs, and shipping solutions to facilitate sales in Mexico and abroad.
Mexican SMEs on Amazon
A 2024 economic report highlights that over 27,000 Mexican businesses sell over 5 million products on Amazon.com.mx. About 99% of these companies are SMEs, generating more than 52,000 jobs.
The report also states that sales contributed MX$19.4 billion to Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product. Amazon notes that services such as Amazon Logistics and Amazon Easy Ship play a critical role in order fulfillment and delivery.
Through the Global Selling program, over 3,000 Mexican companies also export products internationally, extending the reach of entrepreneurs and strengthening the presence of national brands in global markets.
In related news, Freight Technologies (Fr8Tech), a logistics management innovation company, is strengthening its role as a logistics partner for Amazon México through deeper system integration. Building on the expanded services announced in June 2024, Fr8App now connects directly with Amazon México’s internal tracking system, providing enhanced real-time visibility and operational oversight.
“Our ongoing and successful collaboration with Amazon México over the years demonstrates Fr8App’s reliability and scalability. Now, by integrating directly into their system, we are elevating operational efficiency to a new level,” says Javier Selgas, CEO, Fr8Tech.
