Guanajuato Empowers Companies to Advance Export Readiness
More than 30 companies from across Guanajuato received training and tools to strengthen their global trade strategies during a new edition of the Jornadas de Exportación (Exportation Sessions), organized by the Foreign Trade Promotion Coordination (COFOCE) in collaboration with the Instituto Estatal de Capacitación (IECA) in Leon.
The two-day event aimed to expand access to international trade opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses statewide. The initiative, backed by the government of Guanajuato, seeks to drive economic growth through a human-centered approach, officials said.
Participating companies represented a broad range of industries, including textiles, agribusiness, food production, crafts, metalworking, automotive, leather goods, footwear and manufacturing. The event offered direct access to COFOCE’s export support services, helping companies at early and advanced stages of international expansion.
“To export, you need to understand the essentials. It is not difficult; it is about getting used to it, and that is why there is an institution that can support you,” said Asael Colunga, Director of Internationalization and Sectorial Departments, COFOCE. “There are business opportunities: companies are seeking Mexican products for their quality, logistics advantages and flavor, among other attributes.”
A key objective of the Jornadas de Exportación is to bring information and support directly to municipalities, enabling more entrepreneurs to explore international markets. COFOCE is the only institution of its kind in Mexico dedicated to promoting exports from Guanajuato to more than 140 countries, said Salomón Ceballos Ochoa, Director General, IECA. “We should be proud that our products continue to reach the world and represent our state globally,” Ceballos said.
COFOCE emphasized that initiatives like these help local businesses expand to new markets and strengthen the state’s export ecosystem. The program aligns with the vision of Guanajuato Governor Libia García to expand global market access and economic development throughout the state.
MARKDOM Invests US$25 Million in New Plant Guanajuato
In other Guanajuato news, MBN reported that Canadian company MARKDOM inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Irapuato with a US$25 million investment that officials say will create 300 direct jobs and strengthen economic ties between Canada and the state of Guanajuato.
State representatives attending on behalf of Governor García highlighted that MARKDOM’s arrival aligns with Guanajuato’s strategy to attract innovation-driven industrial projects and expand opportunities for local talent. The plant adds technological and production capacity to the state’s rapidly growing industrial corridor.
Company executives said they chose Irapuato for its strong infrastructure, skilled workforce and expanding network of specialized suppliers. They emphasized that Guanajuato offers the conditions needed to support advanced manufacturing and the development of efficient, technology-driven supply chains.
State officials agreed that this investment sends a positive signal to other foreign companies evaluating new projects in Mexico who view MARKDOM’s decision as further validation of Guanajuato’s competitiveness. The project is expected to reinforce formal employment and improve regional integration with North American manufacturing.
