Ninety-nine companies in Queretaro’s metropolitan area were recognized with the Distintivo Sin Brecha 2025, an award granted by the state’s Ministry of Labor to organizations that strengthened workplace equality and improved internal labor practices. International corporations such as Bimbo, Safran, Siemens, Samsung, Aernova, Abbott, Brose, Harman, TechOps, Valeo, and ZF El Marqués were among those honored. Collectively, their initiatives have benefited more than 57,000 workers.

The program acknowledges companies that implemented projects in three strategic areas: organizational culture, workplace infrastructure and prevention protocols. Officials said the participation of national and international corporations shows the region’s progress in adopting labor practices linked to productivity, workplace climate, and talent attraction.

In 2025, 34 companies joined the program for the first time, including firms from the aerospace, automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, and advanced services sectors. Another 65 companies renewed their accreditation, while 26 have maintained the distinction for four consecutive years, an indicator of more robust internal processes and long-term commitments to equality.

The list of recognized companies represents strategic industries such as automotive, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, food production, electronics and technology, sectors that continue driving demand for specialized talent in the state. The program’s expansion, supported this year by the participation of two municipalities and a labor union for the first time, extends equality standards across broader supply chains. According to state labor officials, the initiative strengthens Queretaro’s labor market and boosts the metropolitan area’s competitiveness.

State authorities said the continued adoption of workplace equality policies positions Queretaro as a national benchmark. They added that as the program grows, more companies are expected to adopt innovative management models that foster safe, efficient, and equitable work environments.

EU Backed Mobility Plan in Queretaro

MBN reported that Queretaro’s mobility authorities formally presented the Metropolitan Area’s Comprehensive Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PIMUS-ZMQ). The project, supported by the European Union as part of the Global Green Challenges initiative, aims to improve the efficiency of public transportation systems in Queretaro, Mexico City, Toluca, Monterrey, and Merida.

Gerardo Cuanalo, Director, State Mobility Agency (AMEQ), said the region faces significant mobility challenges linked to its growth and noted ongoing work to restructure the Qrobús public transport system and introduce new mobility options. He highlighted that the EU, through the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policy (FIAP), is contributing €300,000 (US$348,100) to develop the plan. “This project will help us establish a clear guide and a clear vision of what we want for our state,” he said.

PIMUS-ZMQ will offer technical assistance, capacity-building studies and planning tools to support integrated, safe and low-emission mobility. Officials said the initiative has strong potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen long-term transport planning across the metropolitan area.

Ana Cirujano Hernández, Head of the Economic Development and Environment Team, said FIAP is responsible for project execution under the EU’s delegated cooperation framework. She emphasized the broader social benefits of sustainable transport. “We cannot forget that better transportation and better sustainability in transportation improve people’s quality of life,” she said. “It enhances their ability to access employment, balance personal and professional lives, and secure the future of the population.”

The launch follows a series of sustainability initiatives launched within the state in 2025. In early November, the Citizen Participation Council for Urban Development and Sustainable Infrastructure in Queretaro presented a new sustainable housing model designed to demonstrate the feasibility of affordable, low-impact construction.
