Mexicana de Aviación received its second Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on Aug. 9, 2025, at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The aircraft, registered XA-MXB, has a capacity of 132 passengers and arrived five days ahead of schedule from Brazil. The airline plans to launch operations with its first E195-E2 on Aug. 25, flying from Mexico City to Tulum.

General Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, Mexicana de Aviación’s CEO, highlighted political support from Mexico City’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and emphasized the airline’s role in connecting regions and promoting national development under “Plan México.” He also expressed gratitude to the Mexican Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) for its operational and strategic support.

“This aircraft reflects Embraer’s commitment to Mexicana’s project,” Ávila Bojórquez said. “They have collaborated closely with us for over a year, coordinating suppliers and supply chains to ensure timely delivery. We are receiving this aircraft on schedule and expect a third plane shortly.”

He added that Mexicana aims to provide safe, high-quality service at accessible prices for Mexican travelers. The second E195-E2 is expected to begin operations in the second week of September.

Mexicana plans to receive three additional E195-E2s before the end of 2025. By 2026, the airline expects to operate seven E190-E2 aircraft with 108 seats, and by 2027, it will incorporate three E190s and five more E195s, bringing the total Embraer fleet to 20 aircraft.

The airline is completing certification processes with Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), required before starting commercial flights with the new planes.

Ávila Bojórquez described the E195-E2 as “a technologically advanced aircraft with state-of-the-art navigation, a quiet cabin, a cruising speed of 950 kilometers per hour, and a range of over 4,600 kilometers.” The smaller E190, with 108 seats, will serve airports with limited capacity to expand regional connectivity, in line with Mexicana’s business plan.

The first E195-E2, received on July 1, 2025, will begin service on Aug. 25, operated by four fully trained flight crews who completed simulator training in Madrid, Spain. Training for crews of the second aircraft is currently underway.
