Mexico Airports Handle 120.7 Million Passengers in 2025
Mexico’s three major private airport groups—ASUR, GAP, and OMA—along with leading airlines Aeroméxico, Viva, and Volaris, reported increases in passenger traffic From January to November 2025, compared with the same period in 2024. Collectively, the airport groups handled 120,716,802 passengers, a 2.36% increase from 117,932,509 passengers in January–November 2024, according to investor reports filed with the Mexican Stock Exchange.
Among the airport operators, GAP recorded the highest traffic, handling 57,811,400 passengers, up 2.7% from 56,289,300 a year earlier. OMA posted the strongest growth rate, with passenger numbers rising 8.6% to 26,096,014 from 24,026,278. ASUR reported 36,809,388 passengers, a 2.1% decline from 37,616,931 in 2024, but remained the second-busiest airport group despite the contraction.
On the airline side, Aeroméxico, Viva and Volaris collectively transported 77,681,000 passengers during the period, a 3.61% increase from 74,969,000 a year earlier. Volaris carried 28,034,000 passengers, up 4.9% from 26,712,000, while Viva transported 27,239,000 passengers, an 8.6% increase from 25,090,000. Aeroméxico recorded a decline, carrying 22,408,000 passengers, down 3.3% from 23,167,000 in January–November 2024.
Growth at the low-cost carriers was supported in part by fleet management strategies, including Viva’s temporary use of wet-leased aircraft during Pratt & Whitney engine inspections. Despite operational challenges, both Volaris and Viva surpassed Aeroméxico in passenger volumes.
