Mexico to Lead International Thanksgiving Travel to the US

Mexico will be the largest international source of passengers traveling to the United States during the Thanksgiving period, according to new capacity data from aviation consultancy OAG. The firm reported that Mexico has 513,664 scheduled seats for the holiday week,  a 1.4% increase from last year, equivalent to about 7,000 additional seats. OAG’s analysis places Mexico at the top of all international markets feeding US Thanksgiving travel.

Canada ranked second with 305,231 seats, reflecting an 8.1% annual decline, or roughly 27,000 fewer seats. OAG noted that recent political tensions may be weighing on demand. The United Kingdom placed third with 194,983 seats, down 3.4% from the previous year.

Airline-level trends also showed shifts in capacity planning. Volaris became the second-largest international carrier by seats to the United States, offering 88,123 seats—up 9.2% from last year’s Thanksgiving week. Air Canada remained the largest with 132,614 seats, though it cut capacity by 11.1% year over year.

OAG added that “the capacity of this Thanksgiving week, with 20.3 million domestic seats in the United States, represents a small increase compared with the 20 million operated last year, as several airlines increase capacity to cover the reductions from Spirit Airlines.” The firm also highlighted varied domestic supply adjustments among US carriers.

Breeze Airways led domestic growth with a 34% annual increase in seat supply for 2025. Southwest Airlines recorded the largest absolute growth, adding 200,000 seats as it adjusted its network to capture demand and offset competitor pullbacks. OAG’s findings show that network strategies for both international and domestic carriers remain closely tied to short-term market conditions and competitive pressures.
