Japanese firm SK Tec has completed a US$19.8 million expansion of its manufacturing plant in Irapuato, Guanajuato, aimed at increasing production capacity and reinforcing its position as a Tier 2 supplier in Mexico’s automotive sector. The investment adds 80 new specialized jobs to its workforce, which currently numbers 200 employees.

SK Tec began operations in Irapuato in 2013 with an initial investment of US$5.5 million. The company manufactures automotive components such as interior parts, hoods, doors, and seats, using stamping, welding, assembly, and plastic injection processes. With the new expansion, the plant now has the capacity to produce up to 12 million parts annually and reports annual sales exceeding US$21.7 million.

At the plant’s inauguration, Guanajuato’s Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment. “When a company expands, it reflects not only the competitive advantages of Guanajuato, but also the talent of its workforce and the strength of its productive ecosystem,” she said. She added that SK Tec’s decision to grow its operations in the state demonstrates confidence in local supply chains and industrial capabilities.

The expanded facility sources 70% of its supply chain from local companies, solidifying SK Tec’s role as a Tier 2 supplier. Its main clients include Aisin Mexicana, Imasen Mexico Technology, Y-tec Keylex México, TS-tech, and TBA.
