TeleVía Partners With EMA to Reduce Transport Emissions
TeleVía, a major operator of electronic toll collection systems in Mexico, has joined Electro Movilidad Asociación (EMA) to advance efforts toward cleaner transportation solutions. The partnership seeks to reduce the transportation sector’s climate impact, which, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), accounts for 25% of Mexico’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Ricardo Dávila Mondragón, General Director, TeleVía, emphasized the strategic importance of the alliance: “The transition to cleaner mobility requires real solutions and effective partnerships. At TeleVía, we are proud to join EMA, a key ally with whom we share the vision of transforming mobility in Mexico.”
The agreement includes joint initiatives such as promoting the EcoTag device among electric and hybrid vehicle drivers and launching educational campaigns to encourage sustainable mobility practices.
TeleVía’s EcoTag, designed for low-emission vehicle users, has already helped avoid approximately 458 metric tons of CO₂—equivalent to the environmental benefit of preserving more than 20,000 mature trees for one year. The company manages over 240 million annual transactions and has more than 3.5 million tags in circulation, covering 90% of Mexico’s national toll road network.
EMA, a civil association established in 2024, brings together over 23 companies from the electromobility sector, including BYD, Tesla, Volvo, DiDi, Santander, and VEMO. According to EMA’s Electromobility Barometer, the sale of 43,656 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the first half of 2025 is expected to prevent 23,735 metric tons of CO₂ emissions and eliminate the need for 168 million kilometers of travel in combustion-engine vehicles over one year. “Welcoming TeleVía is a significant step toward expanding Mexico’s electromobility ecosystem,” said Eugenio Grandio, president, EMA.
The organizations will also share environmental metrics to track progress and guide decision-making. EMA aims for electric vehicles to represent 50% of new car sales in Mexico by 2030.
