Google Cloud Mexico will train over 200,000 people in Generative AI across Latin America, starting on Dec. 6, 2025. This announcement highlights the company's strategy to accelerate technology adoption in Mexico, where 83% of companies are already implementing or developing structural AI projects, according to IDC.
"We have moved from a moment of proof to a moment of application," says Eduardo López, President, Google Cloud Latin America, during the Google Cloud Summit 2025. He explains that AI is no longer an experimental technology but a central component of business operations. "It is about amplifying human intelligence, not replacing it," says López.
Google Cloud’s decision to increase its investments and training programs in the region is based on key economic and adoption indicators. Research commissioned by the company from consulting organization IDC reveals that 54% of organizations in the country already have structural AI initiatives, while an additional 29% are actively working to implement them.
The driver for this widespread adoption is rooted in quantifiable business results. The same IDC study for Mexico reports that implementing AI in work environments can lead to a 36% increase in productivity, which translates to a savings of about 683 hours per employee annually. Furthermore, 95% of companies that have integrated these technologies report positive results, reports the company.
At a macroeconomic level, the potential is equally significant. Citing an analysis by Morgan Stanley, López says that the use of AI in business could impact the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 7%. He argues that each dollar invested in modernizing data platforms generates a US$32 return on information applicability, underscoring data infrastructure as a critical pillar for effective AI deployment.
Innovation Applied to Business
Some applications are already redefining industries, says Julio Velazquez, General Director, Google Cloud Mexico. AI, for example, enables the analysis of thousands of X-rays in seconds to detect medical anomalies or the design of more resilient and sustainable materials in half the time.
AI can integrate into daily operations to drive efficiency, says López. Tools like NotebookLM can process large volumes of documents and generate summaries for strategic planning, he adds. Globally, the momentum is equally strong: more than 9 million developers now use Gemini and the company's machine learning platform, Vertex AI, has seen 40-fold year-over-year growth, says López.
The Talent and Education Imperative
The central pillar of Google Cloud's strategy is large-scale training. The company is committed to train 1 million Mexicans in AI skills, a goal supported by an established program with 161 university institutions in Mexico. This program provides students, professors, and researchers with free access to training tools. To date, over 16,900 students in the country have completed job-focused training courses, with a 70% job placement rate for certified graduates.
Google now aims to simultaneously train over 200,000 people in Generative AI. The initiative, named “Capacita+ IA”, will take place in person at 50 universities throughout the region and will also feature remote access. This massive initiative aims to democratize access to technical knowledge and address the growing demand for qualified professionals.
