Nuevo Leon to Build High-Performance Computing Center
Nuevo Leon will host Latin America’s first High-Performance Computing and AI Center powered by NVIDIA technology. The project, led by AI–Green Data Center (AI–GDC) and CIPRE Holding, involves an initial investment of US$1 billion over the next 10 years.
“Nuevo Leon will become the hub of AI, marking the beginning of a new green industry in Mexico,” says Samuel García, Governor of Nuevo Leon, during the Mexico IA+ | Inversion Acelerada forum organized by the Ministry of Economy, the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), and CIPRE Holding.
Previous reports had mistakenly attributed the investment to NVIDIA, which on Wednesday denied plans to invest directly in Nuevo Leon. Later that day, the state government said that the investments would be led by CIPRE Holding.
The initiative positions Nuevo Leon as a key participant in the regional digital economy, consolidating its role as a primary destination for technology-based investment in Latin America. The announcement aligns with Mexico’s national digitalization strategy and the global acceleration of AI adoption across industries.
NVIDIA, global leader in accelerated computing and AI with a market capitalization exceeding US$5 trillion, provides the core technology for the project. The company operates under a fabless model, focusing exclusively on chip design and research while outsourcing manufacturing. According to the Government of Nuevo Leon, AI–GDC and CIPRE Holding are leading the local execution and investment structure, given that NVIDIA does not make direct capital investments outside the United States.
The AI–GDC project will establish a Green Data Center certified under the NVIDIA Certified Partner (NCP) program. This certification validates cloud service providers capable of delivering GPU-based infrastructure and advanced computing for AI, data science, and high-performance modeling.
The facility will feature scalable architecture optimized for large-scale data processing, enabling applications across industries such as advanced manufacturing, smart mobility, healthcare, energy, and education. Its design integrates renewable energy sources and high-efficiency cooling systems, which will make it the first environmentally focused AI data infrastructure in Mexico.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and proceed in several phases through 2030. During this time, the initiative is expected to generate specialized employment opportunities and promote collaboration between universities, startups, and research centers. This ecosystem aims to strengthen the regional innovation pipeline and enhance the state’s ability to attract both domestic and foreign investment in high-technology sectors.
In parallel, García announced the creation of the Deputy Ministry of Investment, Innovation, and AI within the state administration. The new office will oversee the development of AI initiatives, digital infrastructure, and investment attraction strategies to support Nuevo Leon’s expanding technology sector.
The announcement took place during Mexico IA+ | Inversion Acelerada, a platform that promotes strategic investment and innovation aligned with the Plan México 2024–2030, which emphasizes digitalization, innovation, and nearshoring-driven competitiveness.
