Sustainability Boosts Real Estate Value Amid Market Uncertainty
Despite global financial uncertainty, sustainability is emerging as a long-term value driver in the real estate sector, though adoption is slowing due to concerns over return on investment. Experts from JLL and BBVA highlight that sustainable buildings are gaining market value and investor interest, especially those with certifications like LEED. In Mexico, green real estate is growing, with LEED-certified space reaching 2.2 million m² and a 52% increase in sustainable office buildings over five years.
Mexico Ramps Up Ocean Commitments at UN Conference
At the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, Mexico pledged to expand marine protection to 30% of its waters by 2030 and launched new national programs for coastal restoration and plastic pollution cleanup. The country also joined 95 nations in supporting a global treaty to curb plastic production and consumption. Moreover, Mexico’s island restoration efforts were recognized as a World Restoration Flagship by UNEP and FAO, underscoring its leadership in marine conservation.
Mexico City Unveils Roadmap to Reduce Plastic Waste by 2040
Mexico City’s Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with WWF Mexico and GPAP, unveiled a roadmap to raise the city's plastic circularity rate from 24% to 84% by 2040 through the PAP-CDMX initiative. The strategy targets waste reduction, product redesign, improved collection, and advanced recycling infrastructure, with new efforts including a Circular Economy Park and a citywide campaign. Chapultepec Forest is set to become the first urban forest free of single-use plastics, marking a major step toward systemic change in waste management.
Nestlé México Reaches 93.9% Recyclable Packaging Designs
Nestlé Mexico has achieved 93.9% recyclability in its plastic packaging, nearing the global goal of 95%, by focusing on redesign, material reduction, reuse, and improved waste recovery. Over five years, the company has recovered more than 116,000t of plastic waste, including materials without existing recycling chains, through its neutralization strategy. Nestlé collaborates with partners like ECOCE and ANIPAC, invests in recycling infrastructure, and promotes consumer education, while advocating for broader multi-sectoral cooperation to advance sustainable packaging and circular economy goals.
Bimbo Reports 2024 Sustainability Progress Toward 2030 Goals
Grupo Bimbo’s 2024 Annual Report highlights key sustainability achievements aligned with its 2030 and 2050 goals under the Feeding a Better World strategy. The company leads Latin America’s largest electric delivery fleet, operates 80 zero-landfill bakeries, and manages nearly 300,000ha under regenerative agriculture. Additionally, Grupo Bimbo advances healthier products and community support through extensive initiatives, impacting over half a million people across 28 countries.
