The Administrators of the National Port System (ASIPONA) of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz signed contracts to establish, equip, and operate multiple-use terminals at the Port of Coatzacoalcos (TUM COATZA) and the Port of Salina Cruz (TUM SAC). These projects aim to support the Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT).

These terminals will be part of the logistical platform of the CIIT, which includes the integration of port administration services provided by ASIPONAs and their interconnection through rail transport via the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railroad (FIT).

The TUM COATZA is expected to receive an investment of US$29.3 million for its construction and equipment. The project is estimated to generate 190 permanent direct jobs and 628 indirect jobs. The terminal will be developed on an area of 67,985.42m2, consisting of a land area of 59,860.42m2 with a 250 m.l. dock and a water surface of 8,125m2, preferential for containerized cargo.

The TUM SAC, according to T21, plans to invest US$26.9 million and create 45 direct and 135 indirect jobs. The terminal will be developed on a total area of 104,091.87m2, consisting of a land area of 93,979.33m2, with a 275 m.l. dock and a maritime surface of 10,112.54m2, preferential for containerized cargo.

According to ASIPONA Coatzacoalcos, a second phase is envisioned for the construction of container terminals (TEC) at both ports.

Eduardo Romero, Coordinator for Industrial Sector Development and Strategy, Interoceanic Corridor, said in 2022 to Forbes that the project would be able to move 1.4 million containers a year, which will cross the country in only six hours, making the corridor faster and less expensive than the Panama Canal.
