This week, the migration crisis keeps causing disruptions as businesses start suspending their operations due to the closure of international trade bridges, causing bottlenecks for the transportation sector. Meanwhile, the Mayan Train might ally with the Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) to boost trade and the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport is set to be inaugurated in December.

In other news, presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez met with Miguel Ángel Martínez, National President, CANACAR, to discuss the situation the transportation industry faces.

Migration Crisis Disrupts Northern Border, Impacts Businesses

The migration crisis at the Mexico-US border has affected the land transportation sector for almost two weeks. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) decided to close the Bridge of the Americas, which connects Chihuahua with Texas, for three days. The Eagle Pass’ international railway crossing bridge, which connects Coahuila with Texas, also closed for three days, while Ferromex suspended its services. These closures have led businesses to suspend their operations, causing significant losses and delays, which are expected to cause daily losses of US$500 million in commercial trade.

Mayan Train, Tulum Airport Keep Driving Progress

The southeast region of Mexico has seen significant progress thanks to the Mayan Train and Tulum’s Airport projects, report Mexican authorities. During a morning press conference, authorities reported that Section 1 of the Mayan Train may work with the CIIT to boost trade. Meanwhile, the Tulum Airport is expected to be inaugurated in December, as it stands at 65.02% completion.
