CBP Resumes Rail Operations; Helax Istmo Project Announced

This week, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) resumed operations at international railway crossing bridges in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas, having substantial economic repercussions, exceeding US$100 million daily. Meanwhile, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) signed an MoU with Mexico, CIIT, and SEMAR for the development of a project focused on the production of green hydrogen and maritime fuels.

In other news, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announces its participation in the revival of passenger train service along the Mexico-Nuevo Laredo corridor.

Line Z of Interoceanic Corridor Inaugurated

President López Obrador inaugurated Line Z of the Interoceanic Train in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca. The first phase of the corridor is complete, with plans for ongoing modernization and development hubs. The 308km project links the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, providing an alternative to the Panama Canal. 

CBP Resumes Operations at International Railway Crossing Bridges

CBP has resumed operations at international railway crossing bridges in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas, after a four-day suspension, with an economic impact that exceeds US$100 million daily. The move follows a series of operational adjustments to manage the influx of migrants. However, some crossings remain suspended. 

Helax Istmo: Danish-Mexican Partnership for Green Energy at CIIT

CIP, a Danish renewable energy-focused investment firm, has signed an MoU with Mexico, CIIT, and SEMAR to develop the Helax Istmo project in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, aiming to produce green hydrogen and maritime fuels.

The Mexican automotive industry is set to achieve record-breaking export figures in 2024, rebounding from pandemic-related logistic challenges. With production reaching 3.5 million units in November, and 3 million designated for exports, the sector is overcoming previous bottlenecks. Collaborative efforts with port and customs authorities, along with logistics adaptations, have played a key role.

CPKC de México Confirms Participation in Mexico-Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train Revival

CPKC has confirmed its intention to submit a proposal to participate in the reactivation of passenger train service along the Mexico-Nuevo Laredo corridor, as announced by the federal government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The company is engaging in discussions with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) to understand the project's scope and the government's expectations.
