Lufthansa Cargo announced the launch of freight services from Frankfurt, Germany, to Monterrey, Mexico. This new route makes Lufthansa Cargo the first European cargo airline to connect Europe with Monterrey, benefiting the automotive, health, and electronics industries, the company reports.
The new route includes a stop in Mexico City via the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) before reaching Monterrey International Airport (MTY), which will operate every Monday using a B777F aircraft. "We are pleased to add Monterrey as a further station to our freighter network for our customers. Connecting the business and industrial city of Monterrey with the European market as the first European cargo airline underscores our strategic growth into new markets and underlines our purpose of enabling global business," says Ashwin Bhat, CEO, Lufthansa Cargo.
Lufthansa Cargo's expansion into Monterrey is part of a broader strategy to enhance the company’s North American network. The airline now offers up to 33 freighter frequencies to North America and up to four to South America each week, in addition to belly flights.
The airline will also expand its belly network with new connections to North America this summer. These include direct flights from Frankfurt to Minneapolis and Raleigh-Durham in the United States by Lufthansa Airlines. The company will also have direct flights from Vienna, Austria to Los Angeles and Boston by Austrian Airlines. Discover Airlines will introduce flights from Frankfurt to Anchorage and Halifax, while Brussels Airlines will add connections from Brussels to Nairobi and Kigali.
Lufthansa Airlines is also expanding its belly network from Munich, with new destinations including Trondheim in Norway, Nantes in France, Oulu in Finland, and Chișinău in Moldova, as well as Seattle, Toronto, and Vancouver in North America.
