Puerto Verde Global Trade Bridge (PVGTB), a bi-national developer based in the United States, is initiating an infrastructure project to fortify supply chains and enhance trade efficiency along the US-Mexico border through its Puerto Verde Coalition. This endeavor brings together public and private stakeholders to establish a resilient, secure, and sustainable commercial trade corridor connecting Eagle Pass, Texas, and Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

PVGTB stakeholders include businesses, communities, nonprofits, and government entities united by a common goal: to create a new Land Port of Entry (LPOE) that facilitates trade while ensuring the safety and well-being of border communities and prioritizing environmental sustainability.

The new corridor aims to reshape cross-border commerce by increasing security, using the latest technologies to increase non-intrusive inspection rates from about 20% to 100% by leveraging inspection methods such as X-ray scanning. This approach will help prevent the illicit movement of materials, including substances like fentanyl.

The need for additional trade corridors like Puerto Verde is underscored by the growing demands of the modern economy. With existing border crossings operating beyond capacity, new corridors are necessary to meet current and future economic demands. By alleviating congestion and enhancing logistical efficiency, Puerto Verde will ensure that trade flows seamlessly.

The new facility will be a functionally lean next-generation port in a strategic location that allows commercial vehicles to bypass high-traffic residential areas. It will also operate 24/7 — reducing wait times and improving inspection of commercial loads. By reducing wait times at border crossings, the initiative aims to cut CO2 emissions associated with idling vehicles.

The Puerto Verde initiative has been advanced by US Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and US House Representatives Henry Cuellar, Tony Gonzales, Vicente Gonzalez, and Monica De La Cruz. Senator Cruz's amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act expedited the permit review process, bringing Puerto Verde closer to reality, says PVGTB in a press release.
