Finland-based Metso secured an order to deliver several Nordberg MP800 cone crushers to Grupo México, the country's largest copper producer. The equipment will be installed at the La Caridad copper mine concentrator plant in Nacozari, Sonora, with the primary objective of increasing the facility's processing capacity.
Metso noted that the order, valued at over €20 million (US$20.8 million), was booked in the Minerals segment’s third-quarter 2025 order intake. Metso said it maintains a long-term partnership with Grupo México and has supplied equipment to various mining sites operated by the company in recent years. "We are honored that Grupo Mexico has chosen Metso for this important order. Our products are designed to meet the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability, aligning perfectly with Grupo México's ambitious targets," said Giuseppe Campanelli, President, North and Central America Market Area, Metso.
The Nordberg MP800 cone crushers are engineered for high-capacity applications, offering up to 15% more capacity and increased crushing force compared to previous models. Technical features include an enhanced chamber design, readiness for automation, and maintenance features such as hydraulic clearing and push-button disassembly, which are intended to lower operating costs and ensure consistent reliability in copper processing.
La Caridad Mine
The La Caridad mine is an open-pit operation located 10km from Nacozari that has been active since 1979, consistently producing over 35,000t/y of copper. Considered Grupo Mexico's second-most important asset after the Buena Vista del Cobre mine in Sonora, La Caridad also ranks as the second-largest copper mine in the country. According to the CAMIMEX Annual Report 2025, the mine produced 93,725t of copper, trailing only Buena Vista del Cobre, which recorded a production of 348,959t.
