Port of Lazaro Cardenas Sees Surge of Chinese Car Imports

The Port of Lazaro Cardenas in Michoacan is dealing with a surge in Chinese car imports, causing substantial delays and impacting its operational efficiency. Despite being a crucial hub for automobile operations on Mexico's Pacific coast, the large number of arriving vehicles is taking up a significant percentage of its capabilities. 

CANACAR Urges Authorities to Take Action Against Cargo Theft

The National Chamber of Freight Transport (CANACAR) has strongly urged the Mexican government to take decisive action to address the escalating insecurity on roads, which not only endangers the lives of truck drivers but also undermines nearshoring opportunities vital for the country's economic growth.

FEMATRAC, Government Collaborate to Address Cargo Insecurity

Members of Mexico’s transportation organizations met with authorities on Jan. 31 and Feb. 3 to address cargo insecurity, establishing collaborative work tables to seek solutions and prevent a nationwide strike. As a result, on Feb. 5, members of Mexico's transportation industry staged a peaceful demonstration to advocate for enhanced safety measures on the nation's highways.

Transportation Sector’s Energy Consumption to Double by 2050

The Ministry of Energy (SENER) projects that the transportation industry’s energy consumption could double by 2050. Despite a slight decrease during the COVID-19 pandemic, energy demand rebounded in 2021, with transportation and residential sectors surpassing pre-pandemic consumption levels.

CPKC, Grupo México Present Proposals for Passenger Trains

López Obrador announced that CPKC introduced a proposal for a passenger train line connecting Mexico City and Queretaro, which could potentially extend to Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. The Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry in Queretaro has also shown interest in participating on the Mexico-Queretaro project. Grupo México is reportedly also considering participating in these passenger train initiatives. 

Hutchison Ports Invests US$4.6 million in Electric Cranes for LCT

Hutchison Ports has invested US$4.6 million to acquire three electric Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes, aiming to enhance operational efficiency at the Lazaro Cardenas Terminal (LCT) while underscoring the company's commitment to operational excellence.
