ILA and USMX Reach Tentative Deal, Ending Strike
The ILA and the USMX reached a tentative agreement to end a two-day strike, extending their contract until January 2025. The deal includes a 61.5% wage increase over six years, addressing disputes over wages, automation, and labor conditions.
Construction of Laredo 4/5 Bridge Secures US Presidential Permit
Southwebb Bridge Company has received a presidential permit to build the Laredo 4/5 International Bridge, a new vehicular and pedestrian crossing 20km south of Laredo, Texas, connecting to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. As the fifth bridge in Laredo’s network, it will reduce congestion and improve trade flow by accommodating pedestrians, vehicles, and commercial traffic.
Nuevo Leon to Develop Cross-Border Train Alongside Laredo
Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel García and Laredo Mayor Víctor Treviño announced the development of the Nuevo Leon-Texas train, the first cross-border railway between Mexico and the United States. The project aims to strengthen economic ties and improve customs operations between Colombia and Laredo. It will also ease traffic and enhance connectivity between Monterrey and Austin. Key infrastructure upgrades, including expanding the Colombia-Laredo Bridge, are planned to support the project.
Sustainability Key to Clara Brugada’s Urban Mobility Plan
During her inauguration as Mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada outlined her plans to improve urban mobility and infrastructure, which focus on sustainability and innovation. Key initiatives include extending electromobility by adding five new Cablebús lines, modernizing Metro lines, constructing two Metrobus routes, and introducing the Centrobus system. Brugada also plans to replace microbuses with eco-friendly alternatives, expand cycling infrastructure, and develop a smart traffic light system.
