Aid for Flood Victims / Canada Relationship

Aid for Flood Victims. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that all areas affected by the recent heavy rains in Veracruz, Puebla, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosi have received food supplies and assistance. She explained that cleanup efforts depend on road access to allow support teams to enter. Based on the Well-Being Census, the federal government will provide MXN$25,000 (US$1,400) for minor housing damages and MXN$70,000 for major ones. The National Housing Commission (CONAVI) is assessing homes with total loss to determine possible relocations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance is overseeing the purchase of household goods to ensure fair pricing.

CFE Nears Full Power Restoration. Emilia Calleja, Director, CFE, reported a 99.82% restoration of electricity service in areas affected by recent heavy rains. Power was fully restored in San Luis Potosi on Oct. 11, Queretaro on Oct. 16, Puebla on Oct. 21, and Veracruz on Oct. 23. In Hidalgo, 99% of service has been restored, with 466 users still awaiting reconnection.

Ministry of Well-Being Begins Aid Delivery. Ariadna Montiel, Minister of Well-Being ,reported that as of Oct. 23,  2025, 92,024 homes across 119 municipalities have been surveyed, most of them in Veracruz. On Oct. 25, 2025 the government will begin distributing the first aid packages in Hidalgo, including MXN$20,000, two food vouchers, and one for household goods.

Sheinbaum Awaits Progress With Canada. President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico will wait to see how relations with Canada develop after the US President Donald Trump ended trade talks, criticizing Canada’s televised statements against US tariffs as “atrocious behavior.”
